    #IndianIndependence #TrystWithDestinyWe end today a period of ill fortune and India discovers herself again. The achievement we celebrate today is but a step, an opening of opportunity, to the greater triumphs and achievements that await us. Are we brave enough and wise enough to grasp this opportunity and accept the challenge of the future? Read more

  • Malayala Manorama

    When the nation was celebrating its freedom on August 15, 1947, Malayala Manorama was in chains. The newspaper was paying a heavy price for being true to the spirit of freedom of expression - the paper staying shut for nine long years. From 1938 to 1947, Manorama had to stop functioning as Diwan Sir C P Ramaswami Aiyar proscribed the publication for reporting on police firings and atrocities. As a result, we couldn't celebrate the historic moment, perhaps one of the greatest in world history, with the deserving vigour. However, in 2007, Malayala Manorama published an imaginary independence day page... Read More

  • The Patriot in Calcutta

    On this day of happiness, let me remember Bal Gangadhar Tilak's immortal words "Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it". As India takes baby steps of freedom, I urge my friends to post quotes that energised you in your fight to gain independence.

  • Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Lahore

    Our object should be peace within, and peace without. We want to live peacefully and maintain cordial friendly relations with our immediate neighbours and with the world at large. #IndoPak #Bros4ever

  • The Patriot

    After slogans, it's time for some inspiring quotes, I guess. Here's my most favourite - How can one be compelled to accept slavery? I simply refused to do the master's bidding. He may torture me, break my bones to atoms and even kill me. He will then have my dead body, not my obedience. Ultimately, therefore, it is I who am the victor and not he, for he has failed in getting me to do what he wanted done. – Mahatma Gandhi. Now what's yours?

    Remembering Tagore's lines on this auspicious occasion:
    Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
    Where knowledge is free;
    Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by domestic walls;
    Where words come out from the depth of truth;
    Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
    Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
    Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action- Into that heaven of freedom, my father, let my country awake.

  • The Indian National Congress

    Several Indian organisations predated the establishment of the Congress and were active in various parts of the country. They could be considered the fledging Indian political associations or parties as we call such entities today. We would like to remeber our predecessors at this historic moment.

    Bangabhasha Prakasika Sabha 1836
    Zamindari Association 1836
    British India Society 1843
    Madras Native Association 1849
    British India Association 1851
    (merged entity of the two before)
    Bombay Association 1852
